Kiezlabor Community Workshops

In collaboration with the Kiezlabor, a shipping container converted into a mobile community space, I ran a series of foraging and cooking workshops through the summer of 2024. With each free workshop taking place in a different location around the city, participants had the opportunity to learn about the edible plants hiding in plain sight in their own neighborhood. After an educational walk and some mapping of our finds, we returned to the Kiezlabor to prepare a wild snack. On the menu through the summer: wild herb pesto, elderflower fritters, cornelian cherry olives, nettle cream sauce, rosehip jam, and even healing herbal tinctures.

These workshops served a dual purpose of ecological activation and education as well as exchange point for neighborhood inhabitants from vastly different backgrounds, showing once again that food really is one of the most important connectors.

The Kiezlabor is a project of CityLAB Berlin and Technologiestiftung Berlin, with support from the Senatskanzlei.
